Job Description
JOB PURPOSE/ JOB SUMMARY

Support the Application Engineering on the material qualification requirements in welding/joining and work with OEM customers to develop welding/joining solutions for USS newly developed grades. This position will be key to accelerate the accepting process of USS new products into the market place by providing the welding/joining solutions to the specific applications of the product.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct various projects in joining/welding, failure analysis and material characterizations.
• Work with USS key customers to develop and implement new technologies, processes and solutions in joining/welding of advanced high strength steels
• Coordinate and perform welding and joining qualifications based OEMs welding/joining specifications.
• Provide technical expertise in welding/ joining related issues
• Provide on-site support to customers welding shops/plants on welding/joining requirements including trouble shooting, technical expertise and consulting on production related issues.
• Work with other welding engineers to develop welding manufacturing solutions

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• M.S. or B.S. in metallurgical engineering or welding engineering
• Production weld shop experience in laser welding, spot welding or resistance welding is a plus
• Good people skills and communication skills
• knowledge in automotive sheet steel grades and properties.
• Demonstrated abilities in working effectively in cross functional teams and independently as a technical contributor / project leader in manufacturing and laboratory settings are imperative.
• Proficient in MS Office software applications including experience in Excel macros and pivot tables, database systems, and statistical software
